First Slice Pie Cafe

Howard Area Leadership Academy believes that giving students a healthy, nutritious and delicious breakfast and lunch each day is extremely important. In order to accomplish this, we have partnered with First Slice, a not-for-profit food service company. Using the highest quality ingredients from local purveyors, Executive Chef Mary Ellen Diaz provides HALA students with delicious gourmet lunches five days per week. Our students receive the same nourishing, high-quality dinners that restaurant patrons do, from soup to pie—a simple aspect of the program that represents a commitment to serving our students good, healthy food.

The food program is paid for by the National School Lunch Program, and by in-kind donations from the First Slice donors’ network.
