Howard Area Leadership Academy provides a unique opportunity for traditionally underserved students to learn and grow intellectually and emotionally. Our school strives to embody the attributes of all high-performing small schools:
- A common focus on key, research-based goals and intellectual mission
- Small, personalized learning environments
- Respect and responsibility among students, among faculty, and between students and faculty
- Time for staff collaboration and for the inclusion of parents and the community in an education partnership
- Technology as a tool for designing and delivering engaging and imaginative curricula
Students at HALA learn in a project-based environment where the core values of inquiry, research, collaboration, presentation and reflection are emphasized in all classes. The structure of HALA reflects its commitment to student leadership, with longer class periods to allow for more experiential- and project-based learning in all content areas.
